Metal is found by working backwards from decay. An Engine from Steam and Fire plus a Plant gives a Car, and leaving that Car in Dust produces Rust. Washing the Rust with Water reveals Iron, and grounding the Iron in Earth finally gives general Metal. Rust is the clever turning point here.
