The 14 starter elements
Every game begins with Water, Fire, Wind and Earth. Combining those four in every possible way gives ten more: Lake, Steam, Wave, Plant, Volcano, Smoke, Lava, Tornado, Dust and Mountain. Together they make the 14 starter elements, the things you will have within your first few minutes of play. The table below lists all 105 pairs among them, each with the result we got when we tried it in the game.
How to read the table
Each row is one combination: the first element, the second element and the result. Rows are grouped by element, so all combinations with Water come first, then Fire, and so on. Each pair appears only once, because the order doesn't matter: Steam on Fire gives the same as Fire on Steam.
To find something fast, type an element name into the filter box and the table narrows down to the matching rows. It's the quickest way to answer "what can I do with this?" for the element you just made.
What 105 pairs tell you
- Fewer results than pairs. The 105 combinations produce only 38 distinct results, and 28 of those are new elements beyond the starter 14. Many pairs simply lead back to something you already have.
- Volcano is everywhere. It comes out of 22 different pairs, more than any other result. Add heat to almost anything solid and the game tends to answer with a volcano. Cloud and Lava follow with 8 pairs each, then Tsunami with 7.
- Self-pairs are worth a look. All 14 elements can be combined with themselves. Lake + Lake = Ocean, Dust + Dust = Sand and Tornado + Tornado = Hurricane move you forward; Volcano + Volcano = Mountain and Lava + Lava = Volcano loop back.
- Some pairs change nothing. Wind + Tornado is still a Tornado, and Smoke + Dust is still Dust.
How to use this page
Look for results you don't have yet and make them; that's the quickest way to grow your list early on. Some of them open whole branches of the game. Earth + Dust = Planet leads into space, toward guides like the Solar System. Lake + Volcano = Island is the last step of the Island guide. Lake + Mountain = Fjord is most of the way to a Troll. Fire + Steam = Engine powers dozens of machines.
Once the starter elements feel familiar, pick a target in the recipe guides and follow it from the first step.
