Apple is a Tree that has been given a Seed. A Plant turns into a Dandelion with Wind, a second gust scatters it into Seed, and Earth grows another Plant into a Tree. Planting the Seed in the Tree gives fruit, and the game picks Apple. Plant starts both halves, so it is the first thing to make.
